BONEFISH FLIES

Bonefish feed on primarily shrimp, but are happy to eat crabs as well and even small baitfish in select situations. Depending on the conditions and geographic area, anglers should have Bonefish flies in various sizes, colors, and weights. Our team has fished most of these flies and traveled to Andros, Bahamas, Ascension Bay, Yucatan, Christmas Island, and Hawaii. Many anglers prefer lightweight Bonefish flies in the #8 or #6 range for fish in shallow calm water. This helps the angler make the cast without spooking the fish. It helps haha! When fish are traveling on ledges, in mud, or when there is tidal currents heavier flies that sink fast and get to the bottom are preferred. In any given day as the tides change anglers may encounter both of these types of conditions. Tippet sizes for Bonefish range in size from as small as 3X up to 20 lb. test when there is coral present. On average, 12 pound Fluorocarbon is the all around standard.
