This is THE Grasshopper pattern in fly fishing. This hopper seems to be the most effective pattern that anyone has ever tied. Sure there will be times when some space-age foam "chernobyl" type patterns work better but if you were to take a 10 year average.... the Dave's would win. The long legs on this pattern are soft and flexible which gives it a very natural look. It rides low in the water which helps your hookup ratio especially in situations where the big fish have seen more than a few flies go over there heads! This fly can also be fished just under the surface for deadly action during the hottest days of summer.
