MEAT.... "its whats for dinner!" for BIG trout that is.  Wooly Buggers have often been described as the ONE fly anglers could go anywher in the world and catch big fish.  Streamers beckon the big fish towards the fly in a way that no nymph or dry fly can.  It offers a signifcant meal that big trout need to have very often.  Large fish require lots of food just to maintain their body mass and the ONLY way they can get it in most watersheds is to prey on forage fish.  Sculpin, Crawfish, Fry, and even other small trout make up their diet.  Make sure to pick up some heavily weighted streamers for fast tight water with plunge pools and turbulence.  You can fish these on floating lines, also for deeper water and truly BIG trout make sure to buy some unweighted flies and fish them behind a sink-tip line.

This is one dozen assorted Bugger and Streamer patterns ranging in size from 4- 10 with a variety of colors and patterns.  There is no secret that the big trout favor baitfish and you should be prepared with a variety of buggers so that you can intercept some big trout.  The Wooly Bugger is the best all around and most respected Streamer pattern in the business.  It fishes great in big rivers, lakes, small rivers, ponds, and even mud puddles.  Ok, maybe not a puddle but you get the point.  Every angler needs to have a variety of buggers.  These are high quality patterns with good maribou, rabbit strip, and sharp hooks.  Order a couple dozen to insure that you have plenty of flies to catch those big trout with an appetite for beef.

These also work great for bass, panfish, and other warm water species.
The number one forage fish for big river trout is the Sculpin.  They feed on these all year round and because the Sculpin is not the most capable swimmer in big water trout know that they can attack with little chance of escape.  This will give you a big variety of Sculpin patterns that are both weighted and non-weighted for fishing with floating lines or sink tip lines.  Most are realistic enough to dead drift in the deep holes in pursuit of the "super jumbo models" lurking down there.  Most experienced anglers would agree that.... big fly = big fish!

This is it man, you found it.  The best Sculpin pattern that we know about it.  It is an articulated conehead head streamer that has red eyes, weighs quite a bit, and swims like its got a pulse.  Use this to target bigger trout in rivers and you won't be disappointed.  The hook is super high quality, and is a slick black coated hook with a short shank a nice gape to it.  There are 2 sizes, the #3 is very heavy and features a large cone.  The #6 is a lot lighter and smaller for slimmer water with less current.  Make sure to get a few of each.
