Caddis are the most abundant late spring/early summer hatches on most western rivers and small streams.
These dry flies and nymphs will effectively imitate any Caddis, Salmon Fly, Golden Stonefly, PMD's, etc. that you will come across in your travels. With much scrutiny, these high quality fly patters have been carefully selected by our staff to prepare you for fishing in the late spring or early summer on any western river. Our home water, the Yakima, has very similar hatches to what you will find across the country and these patterns are well assorted and proven to catch fish. The 48+ flies will have you very well prepared. Included in this package is a "Hardy GS Fly Box" which is now our favorite all around fly box for flies of varying sizes. It has micro slit foam, fits in your pocket, and holds up to 400 flies.
The package includes a big variety of Caddis patterns to cover all stages of the hatch. There is a great assortment of nymphs that produce big fish and big numbers while fished as a dropper or under a strike indicator. There are several each of the Prince Harry, King Prince, Prince of Darkness, Holo Prince in red and purple, and 2 colors and sizes of the Morrish Super Pupae (which is a KILLER). There are a few other miscellaneous nymphs like a Chartreuse Copper John (the bright green makes one of the best Caddis pupae there is!), there are a couple of Anato Mayfly Nymphs in the PMD color spectrum along with a few other top picks. A Biot Sparkle Stone is the very best Yellow Sally nymph we have ever found. In the stonefly department, we set you up with a variety of Golden Stonefly Nymphs including the tantalizing Jimmy Legs, a Tungsten Golden Stonefly (boring name but it produces big action), there is a #4 Pat's Stone that is your go-to Salmon Fly nymph, and of course we had to put a Knotty Girl along with a Morrish Golden Stonefly Nymph in there too for maximum damage. You will find a Chubby Chernobyl - Sparkle Orange in the box as your #1 pick for imitating either a Golden Stone or a Salmon Fly. It works equally well for both, the fish can't resist the orange ice dubbing on the belly. There are also 2 Bloom's Golden Stoneflies which feature a VERY natural look with a dark hair wing that will draw up even the pickiest of big trout. Use these when the water is clear on a sunny day when other patterns aren't producing big strikes.

There are many unique flies in this box that you won't find at a typical "box store", but the most unique might be the "Thingamastone" in this assortment. It features a "thingamabobber" tied into the parachute post and makes the best dry fly for fishing dry droppers there is. It floats high and carries a nymph without sinking which makes your dry dropper game MUCH more effective. However, the best part might be how well it fishes as a dry fly....er....strike indicator. It hooks fish while floating your bug! Let's see another indicator do that!
Golden Stonefly
The dry fly patterns for Caddis and PMD include a variety of emergers including our all time favorite.. the Tan CDC Caddis Emerger. Rig this up behind one of the X-Caddis for a deadly double dry rig. Use these patterns during the Mother's Day Caddis Hatch on the Yakima River, Deschutes River, Bitteroot, Big Hole, Clark Fork,, Blackfoot, or any of the other streams that get great spring Caddis hatches. There are a couple of killer PMD emergers that will fool the ones unwilling to take your ol' Parachute Adams..
There will also be some days when the hatch is stagnant and nymphs just simply won't do the trick. Tie on a tan version of our favorite streamer pattern, Sculpzilla. On the Yakima River, we tend to find that the late spring runoff relocates Salmon Fry or Smolt and the light tan version of this fly seems to take some big fish when cast up against the bank under the sticks.
This is a superb assortment that we put a great deal of work into creating. It is the very best and most well rounded assortment of 48 flies that we have ever seen. At Red's, we hope that by putting these flies together we can save you time, money, and you catch a few more fish than the other guys without "the right stuff"!
