This fly is tied on a Scud hook which gives it a lethal gap that won't leave too many anglers wondering, it hooks fish!  Th hook also gives the fly a natural curve and good lool.  The gold color is great for all hatches but is a stellar PMD nymph. Especially when fished just under the surface as a dropper. The Lightning Bug is a famous attractor nymph, in fact, it might be the most famous and was in fact developed by a late Yakima River fly fishing guide.  It's roots run deep on the Yakima, but trout everywhere seem to have a sweet tooth for this flashy nymph.  The secret to the Lightning Bug is that it reflects light from its submarine surroundings helping to give it an organic look with a bit of flash so that trout can distinguish it from random litter.  It fishes well for Caddis, Mayflies, and any other aquatic.  In fact, the #12 fishes well in lakes as swimming nymph.  Whereever you go, just make sure to have lots of Lightning Bugs in various sizes.
