We want you to experience all the thrills, excitement, and rewards that define fly fishing. There is nothing quite like watching your fly magically race through the air, settle onto the water, and then seeing a trout rise from the depths to inhale your offering! Time seems to stand still in those few precious moments. Fly fishing is a very special sport and we want to be the ones to teach you the basics right now, and the finer points as you progress.
Red's has one of the best introduction to fly fishing programs in the country. We call these core classes, Fly Fishing 101 and Fly Fishing 201. We focus on teaching in a simple, fun, and informative style. In these core classes we also provide all the required gear so that literally anyone can give it a try. Our classes teach all the fly fishing fundamentals that you need to know and we use our unique riverside location to teach entomology, reading trout water, and drift strategies. There is no better place to learn fly fishing!

What to Bring and What to Expect

The class is almost exclusively outdoors, so be prepared for anything. It can be very hot, or very chilly in central Washington so plan accordingly. Here are a few ideas on what to bring depending on the season.

  • sunscreen
  • water bottle
  • rain jacket/pants
  • waders/boots - Only if you already have some. Depending on condtions we will sometimes wade in the river during Fly Fishing 201.
  • sunglasses (essential)
  • hat with a visor
  • sweatshirt
  • all terrain sandals
  • quick dry pants or shorts (sometimes we'll wade during Fly Fishing 201 depending on conditions
  • fishing license - many students will go on their first fly fishing adventure after class but only if you have a Washington State Freshwater Fishing License

This Event is Composed of Two Classes:

Fly Fishing 101, 9 am - 12 pm
- This class builds the foundation for fly fishing and fly casting in the first 3 hours of the day. We can and will provide all the necessary equipment.

Fly Fishing 201, 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
- Most students stay and take both classes in the same day, there is a break for lunch between classes for lunch. In this course we build greater casting skills, learn to rig more advanced leader and fly setups, and present flies on moving water.
