RIO Steelhead Scandi -  Red's Best Selling Scandinavian Spey Fly Line

RIO's new Scandinavian style shooting head is designed for the two handed and switch fly rod steelhead fisher.  They are ideal for casting large steelhead flies with sinking VersiLeaders.  The shooting head sizes are tuned for the most common rods with small welded loops on each end for attaching the running line and VersiLeaders.  The 31 ft lengths are for very short spey and switch rods of 12 ft or less; and in lengths of 32 ft to 34 ft they are for spey rods longer then 12 ft.   RIO's Steelhead Scandi shooting head is one of the easiest casting shooting heads forming tight loops with minimal efforts.

Shooting heads attach loop to loop to the running line of which monofilament is still the choice for the majority of tournament distance casters like World Champion legendary distance caster, Steve Rajeff.  The monofilament shooting lines like Rio Slick Shooter  are hollow so that they float with less friction in your rod guides.  Monofilament does have one problem- memory after it has been wound on a reel.  RIO's Powerflex Core Shooting line is the latest development in a coated type of running line.  It is exceptionally smooth, slick and tangle free with a large seamless loop for attaching shooting heads.  This running line/shooting head interchangeability allows an angler to instantly adapt to changing fishing conditions without carrying extra reel spools.   RIO's Powerflex Core Shooting line size .030 Chartreuse floating is an excellent choice for coldwater conditions; it is also available in sizes .024 Orange and .035 Blue.

RIO VersiLeaderrs feature a smooth welded loop in the butt end for easy connection to the shooting head.  The 15 ft Spey VersiLeaders are perfect for forming the anchor when Scandinavian style spey casting.   A  full range of rates from floating, to sink rates of 1.5 ips, to  2.6 ips,  to 3.9 ips,  to 5.6 ips,  or 7.0 ips  allow for accurate fly presentations

Love it but prefer a Skagit for the big flies December 28, 2011

I sure like this line, but after casting my buddies Skagit Compact with some seriously big flies on the coast a month ago I decided that I had better get a second head so that I can use the Skagit for big flies in the winter and my Steelhead Scandi for the lighter weight stuff in the fall.  I wouldn't trade my Rio Steelhead Scandi head for anything as it seems to cast better and smoother but for $50 I can attach the Skagit to my current running line and enjoy casting big Intruders.
