The CLA has set the standard for affordable, hybrid large arbor fly reels. The CLA series incorporates a superior drag mechanism that is extraordinarily smooth, heat resistant and provides incredible stopping power. While the CLA is offered at a reasonable price, no options have been overlooked. Each reel in this series is designed with a unique diameter and width to maximize the properties of drag consistency and quick line retrieval. The CLA has become our favorite for anglers that are looking for an American made, high quality, reasonably priced fly reel.

CLA 4-7 (Larger Components for Bigger Fish!)
The mechanical design of all CLA reels is consistent throughout the series, but improvements have been made to the four largest sizes to support their use in battling bigger fish. The CLA (sizes 4-7) have a larger sized drag knob, handle and spool cap, but most importantly, they have a STRONGER DRAG SYSTEM. To ensure smooth performance with fast-running fish, the four larger sized CLA reels have also been equipped with oil-impregnated bushings for improved spool rotation. The frame and spool have been reinforced to eliminate flexing when battling the "big boys." With a wide range of sizes available, the CLA series is appropriate for any fishing application. And because of its great size, dependability, drag performance and affordable price, the CLA (sizes 4-7) have become one of the most popular Spey series on the market today.

Best Reel for the Money January 2, 2012

The guys at Red's set me up with one of these and claimed that there wasn't another reel in this price range that could touch it. I needed a reel for my spey rod and wanted something solid enough for big steelhead and even a King Salmon but didn't want to spend too much because I wasn't sure how much I would use my spey rod.  This reel has been awesome.  I bought it 2 years ago and recently came back to this website to order one for my 7 weight bonefish rod and wanted to share my experience.

I have been using my CLA 5 reel several years now and have yet to have a problem with it on any Steelhead from the Clearwater "B" runs and my Deathstar 7126-4 to the Deschutes and the 6 pounders. It also travels to Belize every winter. May have a few scratches and dings but still runs like a Timex.
