About the Sage VXP 7133-4 Spey Rod



The 13'3" 7 weight VXP has a smooth, but fast action that helps you put the fly closer to the far bank with less work.  It is one of the easiest casting "performance" rods that we have found and it appeals to experts and beginners alike.  It has more than enough power for lifting big flies and heavy sinking tips for winter steelhead, still maintains its finesse and light feel when you using floating lines and small flies.  At Red's, we especially like the thin grip and it gives the rod a feeling of precision.  It is the best all around value in spey rods.  It was introduced in 2011, and this new rod family is designed with more high modulus materials resulting in a lighter rod with a more slender shaft design.

Ross CLA #6 Reel Fly Reel for Steelhead and Salmon


The Ross CLA Fly Reels sizes 4-7 have larger components for bigger fish. The mechanical design of all CLA reels is consistent throughout the series, but improvements have been made to the four largest sizes to support their use in battling bigger fish. The CLA (sizes 4-7) have a larger sized drag knob, handle and spool cap, but most importantly they have a STRONGER DRAG SYSTEM. The frame and spool have also been reinforced to eliminate flexing when battling the "big boys". With a wide range of sizes available, the CLA series is appropriate for any fishing application. And because of its great size, dependability, drag performance and affordable price, the CLA (sizes 4-7) have become one of the most popular spey series on the market today.
