This is one of the deadliest Mayfly Nymph patterns that we have ever fished. The leg material is very unique and most trout have not had the honor of being hauled in by this one yet. It is a cutting edge pattern that has a unique styling and works great for all sorts of Mayfly nymphs and immature Stone nymphs as well. It was created by Ken Moorish, one of the most innovative fly tiers in the business. This is a proven pattern tied by TRUE proffessionals and it has quickly become a "go-to" pattern for our guides in many situations.

A great all around pattern. It excels in a variety of situations but is especially lethal when fished at the onset of a hatch. As the nymphs lift up off the bottom and begin their trek towards the surface they will utilize their legs or wings to navigate themselves towards the surface. The scruffy but soft hackle on this pattern accurately imitates this process and triggers strikes. The hackle is a sign of vulnerability and shows the fish that the nymph is out of control and on a neutral drift towards the upper portion of the water column. The Size 12 is our FAVORITE March Brown Nymph. We fish it under a strike indicator at the very beginning of the hatch or pre-hatch, then during the hatch we will fish it just under the surface.

The Lightning Bug is a famous attractor nymph, in fact, it might be the most famous and was in fact developed by a late Yakima River fly fishing guide. It's roots run deep on the Yakima, but trout everywhere seem to have a sweet tooth for this flashy nymph. The secret to the Lightning Bug is that it reflects light from its submarine surroundings helping to give it an organic look with a bit of flash so that trout can distinguish it from random litter. It fishes well for Caddis, Mayflies, and any other aquatic. In fact, the #12 fishes well in lakes as swimming nymph. Whereever you go, just make sure to have lots of Lightning Bugs in various sizes.

This fly is tied on a Scud hook which gives it a lethal gap that won't leave too many anglers wondering, it hooks fish! Th hook also gives the fly a natural curve and good lool. The gold color is great for all hatches but is a stellar PMD nymph. Especially when fished just under the surface as a dropper. This one sells itself. No matter how many new nymphs hit the market this one is still the most trusted and successful. The right blend of nature and technology! The flashy Mylar back gets the attention of big trout while the natural colors of the Pheasant Tail and Peacock convinces them it is the real thing. Our guide staff fishes this fly year round and finds it to be very effective especially at the onset of Mayfly hatches due to its natural profile and long tail.

We're not sure why it got the name WD-40 but we think it is because it seems to work for a little bit of everything! This is a fantastic fly and was originally designed as a Midge but we have GREAT success on it during hatches of small Mayflies, especially BWO's. The thin body makes it an easy to spot fairly unassuming pattern that doesn't raise the danger flag in the trout's mind. It fishes very well all year long but it excels at fooling picky trout that have been beat-up with a Stone nymph, Prince Nymphs, Pheasant Tails, and such. The hook is a light wire Scud style hook that gives this fly a fishy feel and hooks trout on even the lightest takes.

The black beadhead is a true signature of Caddis patterns that work for super picky trout. Anyone who has ever looked at a Caddis larvae up close imediately notices the jet black head and legs that are nearly attached to the head (very different limb structure than a mayfly or stonefly!). This pattern is a nearly exact replica of what a Caddis larvae looks like tumbling downstream. The shaggy black dubbing imitates the legs being turned over in the current struggling to gain balance in the current. Fish see this and snap it up aggressively. We LOVE this pattern as guides and use it all the time from April - October.

Now here is a new pattern for you. A fresh twist on an old favorite that has yet to greet the lips of so many trout. This fly utilizes a Bronze bead to get some weight and attention but still flies under the "hook radar" of most every trout. The body is ribbed with a strand of crystal flash and the legs are built from crystal flash too which emulates a struggling and swimming nymph that is either emerging or fighting for its life. The big trout see this and key in on the flash which appears to be bubbles being created by their flailing legs. Hang on tight when you are fishing this one!

This is probably the most real looking nymph in our entire line-up. The black bead, peacock, partridge legs, and slim biot tail all come together in a way that screams INSECT. Get it wet and this baby shines like the real deal on the glossy peacock will make you look twice after you tie it on the line. We fish this all year as a general prospector and find that on the really tough days this fly will fool trout that won't take anything else. Fish it in spots that you KNOW there are fish but aren't taking the flashy stuff. Run this one through the hole and you are sure to have a fish on in no time at all. We always keep a dozen of these on standby. Especially in nice clear water when the fish have plenty of time to analyze the fly.

If there is a go-to nymph that is certain to bring you a big numbers day this is the one! It is flashy and will get the attention of many trout with its appearance, but don't be alarmed. The flashy legs look like a struggling bug that is making lots of bubbles and will be an easy meal for big trout. It works especially well during Caddis hatches because Caddis are aggressive movers and find the surface quickly making lots of commotion.
The hook is a scud hook which has a healthy gap and won't let those wiley trout get away! Even the lightest takes will be sure to hook-up.

If there was a vote on the most productive "small nymph" pattern for trout, it is likely the winner would be a Copper John pattern. It is a deadly fly on any water and a must have in your fly box. Carry lots and make sure to get the size range from top to bottom without too many holes in it. There are time when our guides can only catch fish on one size, one color. Black Red, Copper, Chartreuse... make sure to have them all and experiment with various colors if the fishing is slow. Sometimes the lighting is such that a certain color will make them snap! Bring a big net and a camera.
