  • Lamson Speedster Fly Reel - Limited Edition

    The Speedster is a super-high retrieve rate reel with a narrower spool, inboard mounted handle and an outer diameter significantly larger than our highest performing reels. The narrow spool prevents line barreling, the added circumference and inboard handle improve retrieve rate. Mate these features with the time tested smooth as silk, maintenance free drag system, Classic Waterworks Lamson styling and attention to detail..

    Add the line of your choice to your order and we will spool up your reel Left Hand Retrieve (unless specified in order notes RHR) with the correct Dacron backing and include a leader. Let us know if you need your reel changed to Right Hand Retrieve so we can do this in the shop.

    Lamson Speedster HD Fly Reel

    Speedster HD (“Heavy Duty”) follows the lead of our Arx and Guru HD reels by incorporating a full-cage design to capture line without failure. The full-cage design is the solution for thin-diameter running lines that are inclined to escape through spool/line-guard gaps. *HD spools are not compatible with standard Speedster.The drag system in all Lamson fly reels consists of a pair of precisely matched conical elements which are drawn together with spring tension to produce variable rates of smooth rotational braking. By re-configuring the surface area of traditional disks into a pair of matching conical elements we were able to seal the drag completely from moisture, salt and grit. And since the mass of the drag elements is centralized, the spool's rotating mass is much lower which makes the reel more responsive to light drag settings. Because the average radius of the contact surface is much smaller (being conical rather than disk-shaped), start-up torque is too low to measure. Most premium reels rely on a pawl type clutch mechanism.

    These are often vulnerable to stress related failure, contamination and wear. All of our reels employ a Torrington zero-lash roller clutch. This mechanism relies on the locking effect of a number of ramps and rollers to achieve torque transmission. There are no "teeth" or "steps" to break off or wear out. And the zero-lash feature means instant engagement. This improves feel and eliminates "spike" that the reel, line and leader experience when a typical pawl clutch hooks up.
